OUR WORK

ENCOUNTERS

       ENCOUNTERS

We provide opportunities for Israeli thought leaders to experience the tapestry of American-Jewish life firsthand.

Interwoven/שָׁזוּר organizes week-long delegations to the United States, constructing itineraries that are rich with impactful, immersive experiences which are tailor-made for the needs of each group. We provide educational content and logistical support for approximately 10-12 delegations annually.

The unique nature of Interwoven/שָׁזוּר’s work requires a deep familiarity with Jewish communities and organizations in the United States. Over the years we have formed relationships with logistics providers (hotels, transportation, catering, etc.) that allow us to save our clients significant costs. We have also built relationships with various institutions, rabbis, lecturers, tour guides, etc. that allow us to arrange relevant content for our delegations.

Interwoven/שָׁזוּר is the only trip provider in the field that abides by the UJA Federation of New York standards of practice. This allows us to set the standard for professionalism and excellence in this emerging educational field.

In order to scale up our work and provide a more cost effective experience for our partners, Interwoven/שָׁזוּר now runs 3-5 day journeys within Israel, allowing participants to encounter expressions of Jewish peoplehood locally. Some of our programming includes meeting new Olim and American Jews spending a year in Israel (i.e. Masa and gap year participants, rabbinical students, etc.). We also explore hot topics such as religious pluralism in Israel, the contributions of World Jewry to the State, and Israel’s responsibility as a Jewish nation state towards Jews in the diaspora. This model allows us to reach less senior demographics, who cannot afford the hefty travel costs to visit the United States.

EDUCATION

        EDUCATION

Our seasoned educators facilitate workshops that help cultivate a better understanding and appreciation of world Jewry.

Interwoven/שָׁזוּר has developed a line of interactive classes and workshops that are integrated into various formal and informal education settings in Israel. We work with Pre-Army programs/Mechinot, youth leadership programs (i.e. Bronfman Fellows, Diller), Shlichim training, staff training for Birthright educators and Masa programs, student activists at Hillel Israel, etc. These workshops are particularly useful as a platform for Mifgashim (encounters) between Israelis and Diaspora Jews.

We recently partnered with AM”I (National Alliance for Strengthening Israeli’s Connections to World Jewry) and ‘ANU - The Museum of the Jewish People,’ running full day symposiums for 6,500 Jewish-Israeli 10th graders annually. Our symposiums encourage students to reflect on their Jewish identities and communal-belonging as a part of the receiving of their Israeli I.D. cards.

Interwoven/שָׁזוּר helped design a new curriculum for high schools for the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Makom. The curriculum is centered around Jewish Immigration to America.  We also partner with municipalities across Israel to provide an 8-part course about American Jewry to senior citizens. By offering our content to groups of all backgrounds and ages, we aim to reach a critical mass of Israelis to cultivate a better understanding and renewed appreciation of world Jewry.

CULTURE

      CULTURE

We utilize mass media and cultural events in order to expose the Israeli public to Jewish life abroad in new and creative ways.

Interwoven/שָׁזוּר played a pivotal role in the production of 'The New Jew', a T.V. miniseries showcasing the diversity of the Jewish community in the United States. The series aired on the Public Broadcasting Corporation Kan 11, and it was viewed by over one million Israelis. The New Jew was nominated for best docuseries in 2022 in Israel, and it was screened in every major Jewish Film Festival in North America. Interwoven/שָׁזוּר’s co-CEO, Moshe Samuels, is the creator and co-star of the series. Interwoven/שָׁזוּר helped fundraise for the series, and facilitated distribution and screening tours across North America. We are currently working on our second season which is to be filmed in Jewish communities around Central and Eastern Europe.

Based on 'The New Jew’s' success of reaching a critical mass of Israeli viewers, we are now importing comedy shows, musical concerts, and plays that will help expose Israelis to rich Jewish culture from around the world. Interwoven/שָׁזוּר is also the international distributor of 'Heschel’s Passover Eve', a critically acclaimed play about the life of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel that was produced by the World Zionist Organization.
